Dr. Ricardo “Rique” Ford
Calabar old boy Dr. Rique Ford is one of Jamaica’s finest minds in engineering, whose research in the chemical industry has led him to pioneering designs in silicone based materials and components for Boeing aircraft, Lockheed fighter jets, Ford and GM ,US Military ships and Aircraft.
Rique Ford attended Calabar High School from 1973 graduating in 1978 where he has the fondest memories of his youthful days, attending football and cricket matches all over Kingston with a bunch of his classmates to support the school’s teams in their inter secondary school matches. He still cherishes memories of himself and Kirk Rawle, Lindo Fletcher, Eric Hosein, Ian Smith, Peter Green, Michael Tate and Peter Leslie.
On leaving Calabar in fifth form, he migrated to Los Angeles California to pursue university studies through the Cal/State System and achieved an MBA and established himself as an astute engineer and businessman in the silicone elastomer industry. He spent the next 2 decades spearheading numerous engineering designs development, and delivery of technical solutions to meet the needs of many Fortune 500 companies. One of his noted achievements was being a young twenty five year old middle manager at Dow Corning in the mid 1980’s, a feat unheard of at the time in corporate USA.
New business startups in Competitive Markets arena's has been his specialty that earned him the reputation of creating substantial profits with limited resources as noted in the many successful entrepreneurial business ventures he has participated in over the years; his first company was sold to a German manufacturing company Wacker Chemie AG that allowed him to retire at age 40. However, after enough golf, boating and motor racing he restarted other manufacturing companies that have been very profitable. He was named 1995 Southern California Entrepreneur of the Year.
His varied business experience in the field of Aerospace , Government Military,Marine and Automotive engineering,Bio-Chemistry and Quality certification, allowed him to achieve Global patents on Buoyant Silicone Rubber,Thermally Conductive Silicones, Fuel and Performance enhancing additives.
The other side Rique Ford to which he gleams with pride and which has brought Jamaica international acclaim is his love for speed. Rique Ford has held world speed records long before Usain Bolt made the headlines in athletics. In addition to his outstanding accomplishments in engineering, Ford is an internationally accomplished sportsman, who has raced motorbikes, airplanes, and cars, however his greatest accomplishments is his exploits as a powerboat racer and the international races and world records he has achieved on his “Ragamuffin” offshore powerboats.
The zest for the checkered flag and to increase speed pushed him to modifying existing engine configurations and building his own engines for reliability. After numerous successes in the amateur circuit, where he got the nick name ( Pizza Man), for his ability to "Always Deliver", led into the world of professional motor sports.
Although Rique Ford was involved in design, building and racing of many different categories of performance boats, he is most renowned for his Ragamuffin offshore Racing Team, which became a globally recognized marine brand cumulating with 3 APBA /UIM world champions and 3 unbroken World UIM Speed records. Even without the successes of his racing team, Rique Ford was instrumental in the development of several key innovative marine products that has gone on to be the standard of the Performance Marine Industry. His business, chemical and mechanical engineering background, coupled with his racing acumen has been recognized numerous times through many facets of industry trade periodicals. His regional and Marine World Speed records have catapulted him to the highest echelons with accolades in the performance boating arena and from professional peers.
In his travels around the world, whether he is racing in Dubai, New Zealand, Japan, New York or elsewhere, has seen him fly the Jamaican flag proudly on all his boats. On one such occasion, he painted the Jamaica Tourist Board emblem on his boat and was duly recognized by JTB officials who flew to make a presentation after the race.
In December 1994, Rique suffered a near life changing moment when he was severely injured during a robbery attempt for his Semi truck that was hooked up to a Race-boat under which he was working. The accident left him temporarily paralyzed and facing the threat of not walking again. However with his never say die attitude and grit of steel he recovered and was back racing within a year. He shared his greatest motivational strategy of having a Porsche 911 delivered to the parking lot for which his nurse drove daily in full view of his hospital room bed. His determination to once again drive the car of his dreams accelerated his recovery.
Rique Ford is currently the CEO of International Eco Fuel Saver , company driven by the passion to reduce global fossil fuel consumption and to create a cleaner, healthier environment; It manufactures fuel Eco Fuel Saver additives for improving vehicle fuel consumption, reduce emissions and increase vehicle performance
His mantra for success has always been and continues to be, THE UTMOST FOR THE HIGHEST.
